When Canadian blues rocker Danny Brooks was 15 years old, his father gave him a choice: give up his budding fascination with the devil’s music, or get out of the house. Brooks ran off with the devil. He soaked up all the inspiration he could by watching touring American blues legends like Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker play a theater in his native Toronto, then hit the road to play — and live — his own blues. The lifestyle took its toll on his soul. Burned out by the mid-’80s, Brooks took stock of his life, checked into rehab, and reemerged a changed man. These days, his music is still as rockin’ and soulful as ever, but he now uses his potent voice and songwriting chops in the service of contemporary gospel. His records, including It’s a Southern Thing, Soulsville: Souled Out ’n Sanctified, Rock This House and No Easy Way Out, are testament to the healing power of faith and rock ’n’ roll, as is his recently published book, Miracle for Breakfast.

Danny Brooks at ACL??? Way to go! Luckenbach Texas LOVES Danny Brooks. Stole our hearts last year at our Blues Festival. Great addition to this festival. I’m coming just for Danny!
9 months agoWe were priveleged to have Danny plat at our house for an intimate concert last month. I have seen Danny many times but was still stuneed by his delivery and content. As well as having one of the most expressive voices in the business Danny’s message and playing ability are inspirational and it’s impossible not to be moved. At one point I got tears in my eyes and as I looked around I noticed that so did everyone else. Such is the power Of Danny Brooks.
Danny also performed at the Firehall reunion which is arguably the blues event of the year in London. When Danny came out to perform he was joined by 8 of the top musicians who were also present. This is a testament to the respect that he has earned from his fellow musicians. All of them agree with me- Danny Brooks is one of the sweetest people on the planet!
9 months agoDanny Brooks is a great singer, songwriter and artist. He turns into a little bit of a wild man on stage so LOOK OUT!!! If you can see him live, go for it!

Danny Brooks is an amazingly gifted writer, musician as well as man…if you have never had the opportunity of seeing this man perform, take the opportunity now, you will not be disappointed! A talent who always gives 200% when performing! So great to see Danny added to the Austin City Limits Music Festival!
